For the second year in a row, we’re excited to invite Levittown School District residents to participate in the LPL’s National Library Week Scavenger Hunt. This year, we’ll be celebrating all month long! If you’re only reading this to learn about the prizes, just relax; I’m getting to it. But first, a little background and explanation…
We’re always looking for new ways to help our community discover the services, technologies, and materials available at their local library. The fact is, we are a great library, with an amazing community! Admittedly, I am biased. But it’s still the truth! The way we see it, the Scavenger Hunt is a fun way to get reintroduced to the Levittown Public Library, which is continually growing. Working from a checklist that we’ve created, you will have your choice of tasks to fulfill. These tasks are valued at varying points, and your mission–should you choose to accept it–will be to collect at least 30 points by April 30th. You may choose to borrow books or technologies, like GoPro Cameras or a Nook, or make something in our Innovation Station. Maybe you’ll use our microfilm reader for the first time (one of my personal favorites on the checklist)! There are plenty of ways to reach 30 points, with no fewer than THREE DOZEN different options. We’ve also opened up the Scavenger Hunt to all ages, which makes this a great way for families to have fun together. Although some tasks can only be accomplished by adult cardholders and other tasks may require the help of a parent or guardian, there are still many ways for children and teens to reach 30 points. Keep in mind that Spring Recess for Levittown School District students takes place April 25-29th, a perfect time to visit the library and possibly win some fun prizes.
Yes, there are prizes to win! Everyone who earns 30 points and turns in their checklist on time will receive an extra raffle ticket on the day of our Summer Reading Kick-Off on June 11th. This will be a huge outdoor festival, where attendees can register for our Summer Reading Clubs, grab some yummy grub, participate in games and crafts, listen to live music, and yes, possibly win some amazing raffle prizes, including gift cards to local restaurants and businesses, tickets to amusement parks and museums, and more. Trust me when I tell you that having an extra raffle ticket for this event is a giant perk. Additionally, after April 30th, we will also select through random draw three grand prize winners: one adult, one teen, and one child. These winners will receive Levittown Public Library tote bags filled with some great goodies, like brand new, age appropriate books, a coupon for use in our Innovation Station, and a gift card (amount and merchant are still being determined).
This year’s theme for National Library Week is “Libraries Transform.” What better way to learn about how the library transforms our community than by participating in the LPL Scavenger Hunt? Checklists (including the complete list of rules and regulations) are available online and in the following departments: Circulation, Reference, Children, Teen, and Media.
Good Luck,
Jess
